I posted this on /r/whoop on Reddit the other day. I have been a reader of that sub for a while. One of the recurring themes/questions that keeps coming up is that WHOOP doesn't support runners well — i.e. no built-in GPS, no pacing info.
I personally have made the argument that I like keeping WHOOP simple — no screen, no GPS means less intrusive, better battery life.
The other day I had an idea — I like how the WHOOP battery pack just slides on and attaches to my WHOOP — and wondered — what if they can make a GPS / Pace Screen that attaches that way for runners and cyclists.... here are some of my thoughts:
- It attaches the same way the battery does — but it doesn't need to connect with the WHOOP directly.
- It has a GPS chip inside, and when you click it into place, it starts GPS logging.
- It could have a small screen that could show you pacing, duration, distance (I've left HR out, because I don't think it needs to connect to the WHOOP).
- It would have its own battery — say it was good for 24 hours of activity.
- When you end your run, remove it from the top of the WHOOP.
- Allow it to sync with your phone — it will load the GPS track, and then WHOOP can blend in your HR data, and use it to determine the 'start' and 'end' of your run.
A huge bonus — it also has the ability to charge your WHOOP.
Thoughts? Additional ideas? Skepticism? I know that they may never work on this for a million reasons, but figured I'd put it out into the universe.
